Acts of Creation

Acts of Creation

The purpose of the Radiant Swords is to forge the Once-Was anew, turning the smoking heap of nothing into a world that will serve as the seed of reality for this universe. To do so, the Radiant Swords perform Acts of Creation. Acts of Creation are deeds that permanently alter the game world in some way, thus advancing the plot and contributing to the shared experience of the roleplay.

The simplest Acts of Creation are literally that: a Radiant Sword uses their Element to in some way alter the game world. A Fire Sword might burn down a building in Aspire. A Water Sword might create a river or lake on a portion of the Once-Was. Note that despite the name, the Act of Creation is not restricted to the most literal definition -- any change is progress, whether it be creation or destruction or simple alteration.

New Radiant Swords especially, though, will have trouble performing a powerful, comprehensive, and lasting Act of Creation with control over only one Element. A Water Sword might create a lake, but with only pure water within it, that lake will be a poor home for any sort of life. But an Earth Sword can add minerals to the water; an Air Sword can mix in oxygen; a Wood Sword can craft a tree suited for growing on its banks. The more complicated the creation, the stronger the Act.

However, some things simply seem beyond the ability of Radiant Swords to do no matter what... but the Radiant Swords are aspects of creation itself, and influence existence in diverse and subtle ways. The second type of Act of Creation comes from the interaction of the Radiant Swords themselves. Powerful clashes between two or more Radiant Swords has a potent effect on the world, and shape it in ways the Radiant Swords never consciously willed.

This variant of Act of Creation occurs whenever two or more Radiant Swords have some sort of charged encounter. Actual combat is the most obvious example, but a fierce argument can have an effect as well. Cooperation in the face of danger or a great challenge is an Act of Creation, as the elements of the Radiant Swords intermingle. Even the most positive of outcomes, like a declaration of love reciprocated, can produce an Act of Creation.

The final kind of Act of Creation represents the influence of the Radiant Swords on reality: additions to Aspire or the Once-Was contributed by players. Both of these worlds have malleable settings, and in addition to the mod-directed changes resulting from the above Acts of Creation, players may write up and submit locations or plots for either of these worlds for the game's use. On acceptance, these elements become part of the setting for all players to make use of as they choose.
