The Once-Was

The Once-Was

The name of the Once-Was is perhaps the sole thing Antithesis, Thesis, and Dreams and all agree on. "It Once Was", they pronounce when asked, lending credence to the notion that the Once-Was is the remnants of an old reality -- a divine collapse, a heat death, a rewrite, whatever your cosmology allows you to believe. Whatever the truth is, it has never been offered to anyone.

The Once-Was is the only true thing in reality. The planes exist parallel to but separate from it, ideological concepts rather than actual existence, and Aspire sits midway between them and the Once-Was, but in this reality the Radiant Swords must construct, the Once-Was is the beginning and the end, first and last.

Radiant Swords travel to the Once-Was from Globe Station, and their connection through the Globe allows them to return to Globe Station in an instant no matter how far they have traveled from their arrival point or how long they have been on it.

Locations

    The Once-Was

At present, the Once-Was is nothing more than a smoky ball of ash across its entirety. Wherever the Radiant Swords go, it looks much the same. The Once-Was is so small its curvature is obviously visible, and one can easily walk its length and breadth.

It has no air, which is an immediate problem; Radiant Swords do not need air, but as with most former physical needs, they certainly think they do. It has no food or water, no life, no stone -- the world is nothing but ash which fortunately compacts tightly enough beneath the feet that it can support the weight of those on its surface.
